Bamberg Witches

Bamberg is a town situated in Bavaria, Germany and was once the scene for some of the most brutal witchcraft trials in Germany.

During the reign of Prince-Bishop Johann Georg II Fuchs von Dornheim, between 1623 and 1633, at least six hundred people were burnt at the stake for being witches.

One of the worst aspects of these witch trials was the torture. These included forcing the victim to bathe in scalding water, roasting on iron chairs and laceration of the neck with a rope and kneeling on a spiked prayer stool. In addition torture was also used on some as they made their way to the execution.
