Bimini

Bimini is a beautiful island chain set in the Bahamas approximately 50 miles from Florida. It is also the setting for many legends including the lost Continent of Atlantis.

In addition, according to Arawak mythology, Bimini was a paradise where no one grew old. It was thought that this was due to a fountain known as the Fountain of Youth.

The Fountain of Youth is a legendary spring that is supposed to give eternal youth to anyone who drinks from it. Legend says that a Spanish explorer, Juan Ponce de León discovered Florida whilst searching for the Fountain of Youth. However, it was only after his death that this rumour came about.

Bimini also holds another mystery. That of the Bimini Road. The Bimini Road is a formation under the sea which has been quite controversial. There are those who believe it is a natural rock formation, while others believe that it was created by man. If it was created by man, the great mystery is, which civilisation built it. The most popular theory for this is that of the Atlanteans from the legendary Atlantis.

Scientists and archeologists believe that the Bimini Road is a natural occurance but the regularity of the formation is similar to that of a man made wall. The question is, who do you believe? Do you believe the scientists and archeologists because they are professionals and therefore are experts in their fields so surely they should know, or do you believe the myths and legends surrounding the area.

First of all there is the agenda for each theory. Scientists and archeologists need facts to believe that something is possible. However, is that fair? Suppose you could time travel and you went back 500 years and you told a scientist of the that time that men would go to the moon and possibly even the planets beyond. More than likely, they would laugh at you and tell you it was impossible. However, we (or at least the odd few) have been to the moon. Therefore, just because scientists and archeologists say something is not true, does not make it fact.

On the other hand, do you believe myths and legends which seem to have no evidence to back them up. Maybe it is a case of meeting half way. Maybe the Bimini Road was made by man, but maybe it can't be credited to Atlantis. Maybe, it was closer to home, such as the Aztecs or some other civilisation. Could it be that there are no facts to back up the theory of the Bimini Road being made by man because all the evidence was destroyed in some natural disaster such as an earthquake or flood or maybe it is simply a natural formation. One thing is for sure, unless you were there when it was created or formed, you cannot be one hundred per cent sure of anything.
